1830 Census of the United States, State of Illinois, Lawrence County

Abstracted by Anne Davee © 2006 from the National Archives and Records Administration Federal Population Schedules for the 5th Census of the United States in 1830. Proofread by James D. Notes: All entries transcribed as written by John Hughes Morris, census taker.  Many of the first names were abbreviated by the census taker; many of the last names ending in "s" (e.g., Powers), appeared with a "z' (e.g., Powerz).   I have left all first names as written in the census record but I have changed the "z" in the last names to an "s" which I hope will help in finding your ancestors.  In the event I was unable to read a letter/name, I substituted an "*" in the place of the missing letter or name.  The census taker did not include townships; he simply put "Lawrence County Ill" on the first page of the census records.    There were no slaves recorded in Lawrence County during this census, so that part of the census record has been left out.  The census taker did not include any information on disabled (deaf/dumb/blind) or "aliens" for any individuals in Lawrence County, so that part of the census record has also not been included.  For some entries, there will be a "C" before the persons name, which appears to be the census taker's abbreviation for "Colored."
