Samuel Henry Steele STARR, 5th child and only son of Samuel Steele STARR and Hannah Melear, was born in Newton County, Georgia in Sep 1833.
He married Martha "Mattie" LEE about 1853 in Newton County, Georgia. This couple had 2 children:
- Mary, b. abt. 1856.
- William Stewart, b. 1 Jan 1858, d. 26 Apr 1927. (Married Tallulah Lucinda BOYD).
Samuel graduated from Emory College in Oxford, Georgia in the class of 1854. He received an AB degree in Education from that institution. He taught school for a number of years and became principal of the Newton County Schools.
He fought during the Civil War in Company F, 35th Georgia Infantry. Samuel died at the age of 29 years on 21 Jan 1863 in Newton County, Georgia. He is buried at Dover Cemetery in Newton County. In "They Followed The Sun" it is stated that Martha died about 1900. I have no further information on her after Samuel's death.
